Picture of Club Success!

Angel came to the Club as a first grade student, and she was struggling with reading. She had to sound out every word, even repeated ones, and showed no comprehension of the story she was reading. Then Angel began coming to power hour at the Club. She received a folder, books, and a graph the Youth Development Staff could use to track her progress. She began working through her reading more quickly, and learned to talk about what was happening in the story. After many weeks of slow but steady progress, Angel proudly announced in a group reading session, "I know all of these words." Her teacher has repeatedly thanked Club staff for the help Angel has gotten, and says she can now read fluently.

Keystone Club

Keystone is a character and leadership program for 14 - 18 year olds. The three focus areas are community service, academic success, and career development. Members of Keystone plan and implement activities, meet on a weekly basis to discuss activities, and plan events to just hang out and build relationships with each other. Our Keystone Club fundraises every year to send members to attend the National Keystone Conference, which brings in some 1,500 teens from around the world to interact with each other and participate in everything Keystone. Keystone is Boys & Girls Club's most dynamic teen program, and our Keystone Club tries to live up to its full potential.

Torch Club

Torch Club is a character and leadership training club for members ages 11 - 13. Torch Club members develop programs and activities that they implement with the help of their advisor, Mary Owens. The Club has held dances and manned concession stands to raise operating funds for the teen center and the Torch club's projects. Their community service activities include playing Bingo at the Care Center and cleaning a mile of Beaver Creek highway through the adopt-a-highway program.
